Homebuilder Perry Homes Launches “Women In Construction” Leadership Conference To Expand Upon Its Nearly 60-Year Tradition Of Excellence
HOUSTON 2025 – Perry Homes, the largest woman-owned homebuilder in the country, with operations in eight major markets and over 140 communities throughout Texas and Florida, recently hosted a landmark leadership conference to celebrate, empower, and strengthen its growing Women in Construction group.
The inaugural 2025 conference was convened by owner and executive chair Kathy Britton and attended by 50 Perry Homes female employees who serve in various construction and leadership roles across the company, including team members from the Houston-based headquarters. These women heard inspiring and instructional messages from keynote speaker Meagan McCoy Jones, President and CEO of McCoy’s Building Supply, along with insights from panelists Tanairy Valencia, the Perry Homes 2024 Builder of the Year; Jennifer Dean, Founder & CEO of Dean’s Professional Services; and Julie Young Sudduth, Regional President of PNC Bank.
“Having more capable, confident women leading with integrity and balance will redefine expectations for what leadership looks like in the construction industry,” Britton said in her opening remarks. “It normalizes respect and inclusion as core values of our culture. Having been in business for nearly 60 years, Perry Homes is not new to this industry – but rather, significant contributors to its future. I take that as a serious responsibility, and I think it is an opportunity for us to make a significant impact across the entire home building and real estate industry.”
When Britton succeeded her father Bob Perry in 2013, the company had two women in construction and 21 women in manager-level positions. Today, Perry Homes has two female Division Presidents – who run an entire unit for the company – along with a Senior Vice President, nine Vice Presidents, five Project Managers, and 81 women in manager-level positions.
“We still have a lot of work to do, which is why this is the first of many such conferences and events to come,” Britton added.
In her keynote address, Meagan McCoy Jones shared her professional experiences and challenges en route to becoming the fourth generation of her family to lead McCoy’s Building Supply. Highlighting vulnerability as a strength, McCoy Jones left her audience with a personal and poignant lesson she learned earlier in life.
“Before she died, my high school guidance counselor wrote me a letter in which she observed, `We sometimes delude ourselves into thinking, as long as we're doing better than most, we must be succeeding,’” McCoy Jones said. “Which then begs one of the most important questions we get to settle for ourselves: what is success to you? How we define success is deceptively complicated. It requires a lot of introspection. The same with how you define being a great leader. There is a lot of personal work that goes into it, and you are fortunate to be in a community that wants to help you do that work.”
Perry Homes’ Women in Construction group started through a series of informal lunches and social events. The growing ranks of female employees and leaders across the company in recent years created the momentum that led to this year’s leadership conference.
