Halloween Snack Ideas
While candy is a staple for every Halloween event, there is a plethora of other snack options that can make your holiday spook-tacular. At Perry Homes, we have gathered a list of our favorite homemade treats for you to serve at every Halloween event this year.
Hot Dog Mummies
Pigs in a blanket are a common party favorite, so why not make them festive with this hot dog mummy recipe? These cute appetizers are sure to be a huge hit no matter who is attending your party!
Ingredients:
- 8 hot dogs
- 1 package of refrigerated crescent rolls
- 1 teaspoon of yellow mustard, ketchup, or other condiment
- candy eyeballs
Directions:
Preheat your oven to 250 degrees. Place your hot dogs in a saucepan and cover them with water. Once the water has begun to boil, reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for five minutes or until they are warmed through. Once you have drained the water and the hot dogs are ready, roll your crescent dough onto the work surface and tear it into eight pieces. Roll one piece of dough around each hot dog to create the mummy look. Add the eyes with your preferred condiments as "glue." Bake in your preheated oven for about ten minutes or until the crescent dough is golden brown and flaky.
Brownie Spiders
For those of us who love Halloween, these brownie spiders are a cute way to keep the Halloween spirit alive. Adorable, no-bake and easy to make, they pack a lot of fun without much effort.
Ingredients:
- 1 pan of baked brownies
- 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 2 cups chow mein noodles
- candy eyeballs
- circle cookie cutter or biscuit cutter
- toothpick
Directions:
Use your cookie cutter or biscuit cutter to cut circles into the brownies to make the spider’s "bodies." Place them aside for the moment. Melt your chocolate chips in a medium-sized bowl, and then remove one tablespoon of the melted chocolate to put aside. Stir the chow mein noodles into the remaining melted chocolate until they are all coated. Be cautious during this process as you do not want to break any of the noodles. Once they are coated, place them in the freezer for about ten minutes to harden the chocolate.
Once the noodles are chilled, remove them from the freezer and set aside long ones to use as "spider legs." Take your brownie circles and use a toothpick to poke eight holes on the top of the brownie circles, and then poke your noodles into the holes to make the legs. Using the tablespoon of melted chocolate that you had set aside earlier, use a toothpick to place a dot of melted chocolate to the back of each candy to "glue" the candy eyes to the spiders. Voila!
Roasted Pumpkin Seeds
One of the most fun Halloween activities is carving Jack-O-Lanterns. While this provides an excellent amount of family fun, it also provides you with a yummy snack. Roasted pumpkin seeds are an easy treat that can be customized based entirely on your own tastes and preferences.
Ingredients:
- 1 ½ cups of whole pumpkin seeds
- 2 melted teaspoons of butter
- 1 pinch of salt
- your favorite spices to taste
Directions:
Preheat your oven to 300 degrees. Toss your seeds into a bowl with melted butter, salt, and your other preferred seasonings. Evenly distribute the seeds into a single layer on a baking sheet and bake for about 45 minutes or until the seeds are golden brown. Stir them occasionally.
